Adventures to come

I'm excited to announce that I have a desination come the fall; I've decided to attend the Creative Writing masters program at Ohio University! I'm very excited to move to Athens and start the next chapter of my life. I know that sounds more than a little cliché, but it describes how I feel so perfectly right now. I've procured an apartment, and now I just have to find furniture and knitting themed knickknacks to fill it with!
Speaking of knitting, I've been working on several shawls like a madwoman. I don't know what it is about shawls, but I've found that I have a deep love for their shape and their construction. I love watching them grow, and looking back at the beginning, knowing that they only started from less than ten stitches. There's something that's just a little bit magical about it, even though it's all just simple increases and decreases.
The first shawl that I've been working on is Kettle Valley by Knox Mountain Knit Co. It's a worsted weight shawl that worked up ridiculously quickly, like finished in just two weeks quickly. Worsted weight shawls are really where it's at, and this one is especially nice because the pattern changes so quickly that it keeps you engaged and on your toes. I did add an additional repeat of the seed stitch section right at the end because I really loved the way that it looked with the Malabrigo Worsted. I used Dream in Colors Classy in Grey Tabby for the dark grey, Malabrigo Worsted in Polar Morn for the light grey, and Madelinetosh Pashmina Worsted in Curiosity for the purple.

It turned out absolutely huge, and I wish it was colder out so I could show it off.
The second shawl that I've been working on is Mairlynd's Solaris, and I'm over half way through. After working on the Kettle Valley, it felt like I was knitting with thread and toothpicks rather than yarn and knitting needles! However, I love how it's working up so far. The main color is Sweet Georgia's Tough Love Sock in Birch, and the contrasting colors are from a Lorna's Laces String Quintet called Tale as Old as Time. It was a limited edition pack that was released right before Beauty and the Beast came out! Which, by the way, brought me to the verge of tears about six times. It was ridiculously good, and I absolutely loved it.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to finish the Solaris by the end of the month, because I might actually be able to get a little bit of wear out of it before the start of summer. Well readers, I must get back to knitting! Until next time!
