A side trip into ball winding

I have a confession: I have not touched a pair of knitting needles since Wednesday, and in that time I have also thought of nothing to write about, other than the only knitting related thing that I did do in that time. I wound yarn into a real live ball. Not a cake with my fancy yarn winder, a ball. All by hand. It took me two episodes of Penny Dreadful (or right around two hours) to finish. That could have been valuable knitting time, absolutely, but for some reason, I got it into my head that the new project that I've been planning requires all the yarn to be wound into balls by me and not by my ball winder. I have to tell you though, it was the most relaxing and rewarding things that I've done in a while. It might have helped that the yarn was Madelinetosh's Tosh Merino Light and as soft as a baby kitten's belly, but I'm pretending that that's not a factor at all, and my sheer determination is to thank. It was a very silly thing that took a lot of time, but I just can't stop staring at how gorgeous that stupid ball of yarn is. I put it in my ceramic yarn bowl, and I have the urge to do glamour shots of it so everyone can have photographic evidence of my hard work. Mostly I did it to stop myself from drooling over the pictures that everyone is posting about their trips to Knit City or their projects for Rhinebeck because I'm so jealous of the people who got to go! Though, if you went/are going to either of those festivals, feel free to post pictures of your haul or your project, or even tell me about your experience! I'd love to ohh and ahh over them! I'm already making plans to go to Rhinebeck next year (I don't think I'm brave enough to make the ten hour drive quite yet), and need to start planning the piece that I'll make for it! Anyways, all of my writing ideas have been driven out of my head in favor of breakfast thoughts, so until next time!

Here are some of my favorites from the photoshoot! One of the outdoor kitties even decided to slide in for a photo op!
