Hello readers! I hope that your weekend was as fun as mine was! It was a knit filled (and mostly homework free) weekend for me. On Saturday morning, I took my very first knitting class over at Heavenly Stitches. We worked on the Whitefish Ripple cowl, link here, from eight thirty to noon. In that time, I ate (and talked) entirely too much, but boy did I have a good time! One of the owners, Shana, made a french toast casserole, and I'm kicking myself because I didn't ask her for the recipe. I originally thought that it was coffee cake because it had some sort of streusel topping on it, but imagine my surprise when it turned out to be even better than coffee cake. Once I get the recipe, I'll post it here, because something that delicious needs to be available to anyone who loves french toast or a good casserole. On to the actual knitting that happened! The Whitefish Ripple cowl is an interesting knit so far, because it's knit not in the round, but flat. The pattern is also a little bit unclear at times, which led to problems for just about everyone in the class. Most of the issues had to do with how many stitches were supposed to be between each bound off buttonhole. I had to rip out my very first set of cast off buttonholes about three times before I finally got it right! But once I finally did get it right, the pattern started coming along really easily. I'm on the second set of buttonholes (if that's what you're supposed to call them for this pattern) now, and the pattern is much easier to read now that I know what's going on. The yarn that I'm using (and that was included in the class) is Cascade Ultra Pima Paints in the color 9125, which is a mermaidy greenish blue.

On Sunday, I took a solo road trip to Yellow Springs for the 22nd Annual Wool Gathering (I'm really jazzed about the punny name). It was held at Young's Jersey Dairy, and I actually had an awesome time, even though I was by myself, and had forgotten any type of knitting to accompany me through the tents. I purchased some handspun yarn for the pattern that I'm slowly building and a set of nice sock blockers. I'll have to include a picture of everything later since I forgot to take one before school this morning! I was so impressed with the quality of the handspun that I saw and purchased, and I really liked knowing that I was directly supporting the farms and the people that I was interacting with. I'm starting to put some thought into buying a spinning wheel and actually teaching myself how to spin! One of the sellers even had the names of the alpacas that the yarn was from on the tags (Thanks for the gorgeous yarn, Poetry and Clarence)! I'm so happy that I made the trip to go to the festival, and I'm really interested in going to many more shows in the future (maybe even some that aren't in Ohio!) That's all for now!

P.S. This ice cream was one of the best parts of the day! Young's makes all their ice cream in house, and oh buddy was it delicious! This particular flavor is called Wooly Wonka, and is only available during the week of the Wool Gathering!

They had these Jersey Statues all over the grounds of the Dairy, this one happens to be covered in pictures of PT Cruisers.
